A Praise Dance for This Embodiment

looking at the moon
never wears it out.

Camping on the Mountain

at tree line
below one of the glaciers,
this place called to me.

A short walk away
from the rest of the party,
it seemed to me a home -
though I'd never been there before.

A small rock outcrop tinged red and black
sprouted a thicket of whitebark pines,
dark green with a few gray, dead branches
as is natural, above
the compacted snow
of late mid-summer,
on which I layered my ground cloth,
mat, sleeping bag.

My pack and ice ax spent the night
propped against the rock.

I don't recall what dreams,
I had that night, nor can I say
how many stars I saw,
although a glorious multitude.

But I remember still that place,
it's raw beauty,
and how it welcomed, held me,
as many other places since
like a second mother, second father;
how, like them, it blessed me on my way.

Debriefing
on the Other Side of the Veil

What surprised you?
What did you learn?
How thoroughly did you love?
And did you at last
find your rune
and place it on the bark
of the Tree of Life?

A Blessing on Your Wedding

As the poet Hafiz has said, and said truly,
in this life we are travelers
sojourning in a guest house with two doors.

And it has long been known
that we each arrive in this guest house
with certain appointments to keep
in our own unique search
for the water of life
and in learning how to be fruitful.

When we come togeter in marriage
we create togethr a third being,
known as "the couple,"
who is often wiser that either party alone
and who becomes our new teacher,
standing with us through hard times and good,
and helping us to keep our appointments.

Today you are encircled by your friends and relatives –
by those present, and by those absent
who always hold you present in their hearts.
We witness that your own two hearts
have linked themselves together
with the golden lariat of love
which loops them both in the sign of infinity.

So, may you always know
that you live in the house of belonging.
May you be safe harbors for each other
when storms abound.

May you be mirrors and fierce allies for each other
as each of you peels back the layers
of your inner mystery.
May you enjoy your lives together
in grateful juicy fullness.
May your marriage be a blessing
to all beings in this guest hours.
And, with honor, balance, and integrity,
may you always go in beauty

After

After washing my hands –
the cluster of shining bubbles
on the bar of soap.

After a yesterday of steady rain –
the rows of tiny water lenses
pendant on the fence wire of the garden.

After the musicians stop –
the voluptuous silence
before applause begins.

After swimming –
the towel’s warm embrace.

After making love –
us.
